Walnut Enclosure – In Development

Wallnut enclosure under development
Wallnut enclosure under development

Exciting news.

It is still early stage, but we have been working with a local furniture designer Namon on a walnut enclosure for all our DIY amplifier kits.

Namon, who runs his company Namon Gaston closed to Edinburgh, is an award winning furniture designer (also I have known him personally for more than 20 years).

The enclosure, with internal layout of 300mm x 260mm will be able to mount the plate that is included in all our kits.

A walnut enclosure would look superb next  to your classic vinyl record player for sure!

Watch this space, there will more soon.

Classique Phono Transformers

Power transformers for the Classique Phono Valve Amp kit
Power transformers for the Classique Phono Valve Amp kit

It is always a good news when you received a delivery from your trusted supplier. Yesterday, a big box arrived, containing a large quantities of specially designed and made power transformers for the Classique Phono Valve Amp kit.

These transformers are  low flux density with high quality M6 laminations, meaning the magnetising current is tiny and the stray flux is small. Additionally a bright copper flux band was added to reduce any stray flux down to almost nothing.

As mentioned on the product page of the Classique Phono Valve Amp kit, we have spec, two transformers for a single amp unit. One for the HV and one for the LV. You can also read the white paper for the Classique Phono Valve Amp kit here.

Exotic Boutique capacitors – from Russia with love

SSG-2 SILVER MICA – 99700pF – 100nF – 350V – 0.3%
SSG-2 SILVER MICA – 99700pF – 100nF – 350V – 0.3%

We are offering our customers a chance to get some really rare and unique capacitors at our online shop.

Take a look at the SGM-3 10000pF 350V Silver Mica Capacitor as an example. A perfect candidate for the RIAA circuit where precision and quality are the key!

Similarly, the SSG-2 SILVER MICA – 99700pF – 100nF – 350V – 0.3% would be a perfect companion too! This is another of the military-spec from the old USSR era.

What about this legendary S+M Sikorel 105 B41570-A9108-Q 1000uF 100V Aluminium Electrolytic Capacitor? Try and use them as smoothing capacitors in a power supply circuit and notice the difference.

Phono Preamp – Work Under Development

Well, they are suppose to be green! For some reason, during the development process of these boards, someone must have chosen the wrong colour!

These boards are going through final stages of tests and will be available rather soon.

The amplification is done two 12AX7 valves per channel. One being dedicated for the phono stage (with passive RIAA equalization) and another one for managing a line-level pre-amp duty. Output impedance is set to 100KOhm.

PCB Going Green

We have decided to for green PCBs rather than the standard blue for any future PCB! Whilst working with the latest production, we had a long and heated discussions on the best colour for the PCBs!

YES we do think that the colour effects the audio quality by indirectly changing the brain perception of the audio integrity. No scientific study of course – only some late night listening and discussions…
